Our native wild clematis, twining through hedgerows and sometimes high up into trees

Scented flowers with four greenish petals and conspicuous yellow stamens appear in late summer

Hairy seeds in dense clusters soemtimes persist right through the winter, hence the common name 'Old man's beard'
